New medical reform activates rigid demand for medical devices

“To make the basic hospital affordable, affordable, and communicable”, “The demand for technical services in basic-level hospitals is no less than that of equipment.” ... From April 16 to 19, the 65th China International Medical Equipment Fair ( CMEF) was held in Shenzhen. At the Medical Device Expo, the topics discussed by the people and the products that the company promotes are often related to the construction of "primary-level hospitals."

The theme of this medical equipment exposition is "Basic Medical Solutions." In the exhibition area of 110,000 square meters, there are more than 2,400 exhibitors, 5,400 booths, tens of thousands of products in 40 categories, and more than 600 innovative products. The exhibition area (18,000 square meters) of the professional division of medical imaging equipment is the largest in all pavilions.

According to the reporter's understanding, under the guidance of the new medical reform policy, the rigid demand for medical devices is increasing. The recently published "China Medical Equipment Green Paper" shows that in the first year of the implementation of the new medical reform in 2009, the nation's health expenditure reached 390.2 billion yuan, an increase of 38.1% over 2008. These funds have focused on the construction of basic medical insurance, basic public health, and primary health service systems, which have greatly promoted the development of the medical and health industry, making its total output value exceed one trillion yuan for the first time, including the income and profit of the medical instrument and equipment manufacturing industry. The growth rate reached 28% and 41%, significantly higher than the pharmaceutical industry's 19% and 21% revenue and profit growth. Priority to the development of county-level hospitals has been included in the 2011 new medical reform key work plan. At the expo, companies such as Lan Yun, GE Healthcare, Neusoft, Mindray, Wandong, Siemens, Toshiba, Philips, and Ruisheng all launched “economical and applicable” products for county-level hospitals.

In addition, in 2010, the central government allocated special funds for the construction of basic medical facilities. A total of 2,130 county-level hospitals across the country received a one-off subsidy of RMB 2.5 million from the central government. The allocation of medical equipment at county-level medical institutions has caused concern in the industry. In response to this problem, the Chinese Medical Equipment Association held the first "China's secondary medical institutions appropriate video equipment technology configuration seminar" at the Medical Devices Expo.
