Genome related to rumination

South Korean scientists successfully sequenced a major microorganism in the rumen microflora of cattle. The rumen is the first chamber of a cattle's complex stomach structure and is used to initially digest difficult-to-digest grasses. Lee and his collaborators demonstrated the entire 2314078 gene sequence of the Mannheimia succinipidoues bacteria in the rumen in the October issue of Nature-Biotechnology. This bacteria is abundant in the ruminated, carbon dioxide-rich rumen. In addition to determining the genetic map of this bacterium, the researchers also identified the main metabolic pathway that this bacterium is suitable for survival in the rumen. Knowledge of the genomic and metabolic information of this bacterium can help people explore the reasons for their efficient use of carbon dioxide for the production of organic acids, allowing the development of relevant biodegradable polymers, resins and other compounds.
