The Ministry of Health establishes a nutrition standards professional committee

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, November 23 (Zhou Tingyu and Ma Jiayu) The Ministry of Health established a nutrition standards professional committee in Beijing on the 23rd to further promote the nutrition improvement work of our residents and to give play to the role of nutrition work in the prevention and control of acute and chronic diseases.

With the improvement of living standards, people's health level and health awareness have greatly improved. However, due to the large population base and overall nutritional literacy in China, residents still have many misconceptions about diet, and the problem of nutritional deficiencies and overnutrition is still serious in some regions and some people, and nutritional standards are lagging behind.

Nan Junhua, director of the Health Supervision Center of the Ministry of Health, pointed out that the main task of the Nutrition Standards Committee of the Ministry of Health is to address the current lack of nutrition standards, propose nutritional standards development plans and standards for the annual system, revision plans and recommendations, and review nutrition standards for the Ministry of Health. The development of nutrition work provides consultation and technical support to promote the promotion and implementation of nutrition standards in the health field and the whole society.

Wang Jianrong, deputy director of the Ministry of Health Policy and Regulation Department, said that the members of the Nutrition Standards Professional Committee came from different departments and fields in local universities, colleges and the Ministry of Health and were elected. At present, the committee members are actively studying the establishment of a nutrition standard system framework, formulating a five-year development plan for nutrition standards and the 2011 revision of the nutrition standard system.

According to another report, in order to meet residents' needs for nutrition information, education, guidance, and intervention, the Ministry of Health has issued the “Measures for the Management of Nutrition Improvement Work” and will begin implementation on September 1 this year.
