Rapeseed oil "fit" into biodiesel

In 2002, when Ji Jianping returned from study abroad, the situation was so keen that he decided to study "inexhaustible, inexhaustible" biodiesel.

The waste oil, cooking oil, vegetable oil, etc. on the table can all become biodiesel in Ji Jianbing's laboratory. But in the end what kind of raw materials will be selected, will biodiesel eventually reach the civilian population? Solving this difficult problem was accidental. Last year, Ji Jianbing went to Beijing on business and listened to an academician. A Zhejiang scholar, Chen Jinqing, was studying a new variety of high-yield, high-oil rapeseed that could be used as a raw material for biodiesel. Chen Jinqing was commissioned by the Ministry of Science and Technology. Participated in the drafting of the National Eleventh Five-Year Biomass Energy Plan in Beijing.

Two people soon met, and Chen Jinqing had just cracked the raw material problem of biodiesel.

Biodiesel is the national eleventh five-year science and technology project. In October of last year, experts participating in R&D were stuck with a problem: the price of rapeseed oil was more than 5,000 yuan a ton, while ordinary diesel oil was only 5,000 yuan per ton. To make rapeseed oil into biodiesel, a series of The cost of processing procedures is not small. As such, industrialization is simply not realistic.

At this critical juncture, Chen Jinqing came up with an exhilarating approach: rapeseed oil contains a kind of fatty acid called "erucic acid," which is a valuable green chemical raw material. It costs more than 20,000 yuan per ton. "The high added value of 'erucic acid' is used to compensate for the high cost of oil investment," Chen Jinqing suggested. "According to our thinking, the economic efficiency of enterprises has gone up. It is profitable. There is enthusiasm for production. Farmers have money to earn. Willing to grow rapeseed; consumers can also use cheaper biodiesel." Chen Jinqing said.

Industrialization becomes possible

After Chen Jinqing has cultivated rapeseed, Ji Jianbing will react with the refined oil and methanol, convert it to biodiesel 1:1, and directly pour it into the diesel engine. Then he can use it. The technicians were tested on tractors and bulldozers and the results were very good. In foreign countries, there are successful examples of using biodiesel in automobiles.

Zhegong University's biodiesel technology has applied for a national patent and has complete intellectual property rights. Internationally, there are many methods for producing biodiesel, but Zhegongda's technology can reduce the reaction time by 4 times under normal temperature and pressure. "Originally, people responded for one hour. Now we only need 15 minutes. The same time, the shorter the reaction time, the less equipment needed and the smaller the factory area. It suits the actual needs of Zhejiang," says Ji Jianbing.

Gaining access to land

Although there are brilliant ideas, things are not as smooth as people expected. Chen Jinqing has just started to choose a kind of genetically modified rapeseed called “Super Oil No. 1” and “Super Oil No. 2” as raw materials. Both canola produce at least 50% of oil and 50% of erucic acid. However, because of the sensitive nature of genetic modification, no "life permit" has been granted.

Everyone did not feel discouraged, but also locked the raw materials No. 2 "candidates" - the "hybrid No.2" developed by conventional hybridization technology. Although the oil content and erucic acid were all reduced by 20%, they did not encounter any trouble in the approval process.

At present, several tons of "Youza No. 2" rapeseed are ready. In September, it is time to plant rapeseed in one year, but everyone has encountered a problem: the land has not yet been negotiated.

Yuhang, Tongxiang... They can run anywhere they can run. “Looking for a few thousand mu of land to allow rapeseed to settle down is not easy, but we also believe in hard work and will eventually resolve it,” said Chen Jinqing.

Once successful, It will be able to meet 1/30 of the total diesel consumption in Hangzhou in one year.

By the end of July this year, only 1.17 million vehicles of various types including motor vehicles and other vehicles in Hangzhou had been growing at a rapid rate of 22% per year. Relevant departments expect that Zhejiang Province will consume 8 million tons of diesel oil this year; the total consumption of diesel oil in Hangzhou this year is about 1.5 million tons. Experts are optimistic that biodiesel industrialization will eventually change the energy shortage in Zhejiang.

Zhang Qingyu, a teacher from Zhejiang University, once led a team to investigate exhaust emissions. Every day, car exhaust is equivalent to manufacturing one ton of toxic benzene to Hangzhou City. Tail gas pollution accounts for 40% of Hangzhou's gas pollution. Exhaust gas has a strong carcinogenic effect, long-term exposure can cause chronic poisoning in humans. The exhaust gas is also associated with photochemical pollution that pollutes the atmosphere.
