How to propagate strawberry ramets

The division propagation is also known as propagation of rhizomes or division propagation. This method is suitable for two situations: First, the strawberry garden needs to be replaced by land replacement, all plants are dug out and planted after the ramets, and the second is for some strawberry varieties that do not easily produce stolons.

1. The characteristics of ramets breeding

The breeding of strawberry ramets does not require the establishment of a special nursery, and it does not require the removal of excess stalks and soil pressure on the stalks section, which can save labor and reduce the cost of raising seedlings. Compared with the propagation of seedlings, the propagation coefficient of the ramets is low. Generally, the three-year-old mother plants have only 8 to 14 qualified strawberry seedlings per plant, and the quality of the seedlings is not as good as that of the shoot cultivars. In addition, this type of seedlings, with multiple wounds, are susceptible to infection by soil-borne pathogens. At present, in addition to urgent need for seedling production, this method is generally not used to propagate seedlings.

2. Methods of propagation

There are two kinds of ramets breeding, one is the rhizome ramets and the other is the new stalk ramets.

(1) Rhizome ramets

After the fruit is harvested, the management of the mother plant is promptly strengthened, and fertilization, watering, weeding, and loose soil are timely conducted to promote the emergence of new stem branching from the new shoot axillary bud. When there is a new leaf in the shoot of the mother plant and a new root grows in the underground root, old roots are excavated, and the lower black adventitious roots and senescent rhizomes are cut off, and the new rhizomes are separated one by one. There are 5~8 robust leaves on the stem and 4~5 adventitious roots in the lower part. The isolated rhizomes can be planted directly into the production garden. Watering should be performed promptly after planting, and the management of strawberry planting should be strengthened to promote growth. The second year will result in normal results.

(2) New stalks

In addition to the above-mentioned ramets method, it is also possible to cultivate the results of new stem shoots of mother plants. The method is: After harvesting the fruits of the first year, the plants are dug out and replanted in flattened pods. The width is 70 centimeters wide. It can be planted in 2 rows with a spacing of 30 centimeters. Digging a hole every 50 centimeters in the row and planting two seedlings per hole. After one month, the stalks of the mother plants were stalked. When there were 2 to 3 stalks per plant, the shoots were sharpened and the new shoots on the mother plants were thickened. Go to the stem to repeat. In this way, the planted 2-year-old seedlings can be divided into 4 to 6 new shoots per hole. The inflorescences on the new stems, plus the inflorescences on the stems around the new stems, are more than one-third more than the inflorescences of the simple stems. The yield is also significantly increased, and the land and labor of the seedlings are also saved. After the fruit is harvested, the three-year-old strawberry seedlings are removed, and two-year-old fruit with one-year fruit can also be used.
