New colorful leaf tree - Golden leaf (Figure)

Metasequoia glyptostroboides is the only species of the genus Cedaraceae and Metasequoia. This species was once considered to be extinct and was discovered in 1941 in the vicinity of Lichuan, Hubei Province. The plant was discovered in Wanxian, Sichuan Province. In 1947, the seeds of Metasequoia were introduced to the Arnold Arboretum in the United States, where it was then transmitted to botanical gardens around the world. In 1948, the "Medickas" and its scientific name were formally named and have enjoyed great reputation in China and even in the world.

M. glyptostroboides 'Gold Rush' is a cultivar of Metasequoia that has been developed in recent years. Deciduous trees, fast-growing, strong, bark reddish-brown; leaves flat, linear, 2 pairs of opposites on short branches; fresh leaves in the spring, summer and autumn of the year are golden yellow.

Most of the gold-leaved metasequoia is introduced from Japan. The requirements for the microclimate are relatively strict, and the requirements for air humidity are relatively high. At present, introductions have been made in Beijing, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Zhejiang, and other places. Experiments have shown that introduction performance is poor in some parts of Beijing, while those introduced in Shanghai, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang have strong adaptability, rapid growth, and development. Straight, beautiful tree shape, stable leaf color, three-year-old seedlings up to 3 meters high. The use of cuttings to propagate seedlings can be done in four seasons with a high survival rate.

Gold leaf is more resistant to water and moisture, and it is an excellent green tree species in plain lake areas. As a colorful leaf species, it has a broad prospect for development in East China.
