Silage should not feed rabbits

Silage has a taste of wine, good palatability, and easy digestion and absorption. It is the main feed for the development of grain-saving animal husbandry, and it is very suitable for cattle, sheep and breeding sows. However, silage is not suitable for feeding rabbits, because the silage is likely to rot and deteriorate after being exposed for a long time, and rabbits respond sensitively after eating, which can easily cause toxic diarrhea. In addition, the rabbit's cecum is particularly developed, resembling a natural fermentation bag, the main role is to digest the cellulose in the feed. The cecum digests cellulose mainly by cellulase, and cellulase is secreted by microorganisms in the cecum. The growth and reproduction of these microorganisms requires a slightly alkaline environment. If the feed acidity increases, growth and reproduction of microorganisms in the cecum will be hindered, resulting in a decrease in the number of cellulases secreted by the microorganisms. Therefore, feeding rabbits with silage tends to cause indigestion and even cause adverse effects such as acidosis. Therefore, rabbits should not be fed as much as possible.
